1. First, a patient's nurse may call the pharmacy to give the prescription verbally or after receiving the prescription on paper, the patient brings it to a pharmacy's drop-off window. 2. Pharmacy personnel will enter the patient information and prescription into the patient profile on the computer. 3. A prescription label will be printed ready for attachment onto the medicine vial/bottle. Other prescription information pertinent to the patient (with respect to the prescribed drug) will also be printed. 4. The technician retrieves the bulk pills bottle from the shelf and enters the appropriate number of pills into an the vial. 5. The pharmacist quality checks the medication against the patient profile and prescription. 6. The medication is ready for pick-up after the pharmacist initializes the prescription label and further packaging is completed. 7. Patient picks-up medication (in some cases, retail pharmacies will deliver the medication). If the patient requests or is new to the medication, the pharmacist will provide consultation. |
